Nicho Hynes - SELL
41FP vs Penrith - 1TA, 1LBA, 23TCK/2MT. 95MG, 164KM, 0 goals
Evident that under Craig Fitzgibbons current game plan he is no longer the halfback or dominant half. 41 vs Penrith isn’t bad as they are the best defensive team in the league however as it stands no goal kicking and limited general play kicking means his value at the moment just isn’t there. For the 6.6% cop the $20K loss for now and go for the safety of a Haas or Cleary.
Mitch Barnett SELL to either Tom Gilbert or Payne Haas otherwise HOLD
49FP in 51 mins vs Raiders - 39 TCK, 86MG, 1TB
Not an urgent sell but if you don’t know Tom Gilbert or Payne Haas probably one to make or be left behind. Currently 14.1% owned and not dropping cash. He was the first MID off the field in Vegas which was unusual as he has the ability to play big minutes. It was evident that the Wahs can’t have both Fisher Harris or Barnett off at the same time (think the Broncos with Haas and Carrigan) so it wouldn’t surprise me to see Barney get 60 mins this Friday against Manly. Just with the dual and price you can downgrade to Gilbert, save over $150K and get a like for like player.
Luke Metcalf - HOLD
21 FP vs Raiders - 339KM, 18TCK / 7 MT, 2 ER, 68MG
Don’t give up on a player after 1 game as a week is a long time in Rugby League and turn arounds happen on the weekly. It was his first ever NRL game in the position after playing two trials against reserve grade calibre opponents. Against Canberra he had 18 demerits from 7MT and 2 errors. Given a long preparation for the Wahs to make corrections and a short turnaround for Manly, the first home game of the season is not the game to be giving up on him. If he misfires in round 2 there will be options like an upgrade to Munster, Brimson or look to cash down to a cashie.
Corey Horsburgh - BUY
55 FP in 59 mins vs Wahs - 34 TCK, 3 OFH, 123 MG, 1 TB
The big red machine becomes even more important with the suspension of Tapine. The big thing was the 59 mins he played and if this continue look for Horse to score 50+ weekly. While he had 3 offloads, its still his style of play and there is still room for improvement in only 123 metres ran. Any price under $600k is a steal.
Gehamat Shibasaki - BUY
54 FP vs Roosters - 1T, 1TA, 2LBA, 2 TB, 1 OFH, 139 MG
The great Shiba rewarded those who took the punt early. Given a stack of attacking stats and no demerits don’t expect 50+ scoring on the weekly. But with the draw ahead is Raiders, Cowboys, Dolphins, Tigers, Roosters, Warriors why would you not want to have Shiba on this left edge with the Broncos. Yeah Staggs is 4-5 weeks away but given Shiba isn’t filling in on the right I think puts him ahead of Mariner at this stage.
Sandon Smith - only BUY if all your other cashies are sorted do not prioritise
44 FP vs Brisbane - 1T, 1TS, 1G, 1 LB, 103 MG, 17TCK/4MT
Not an urgent buy given how bad the Roosters are. Might be more useful in the coming weeks as a potential cashdown for Metcalf if that doesn’t work out. The biggest issue I find with Smith is the amount of attacking stats to hit a 44 which won’t be happening weekly. Can see him getting targeted by the Panthers this week also and is not the most accurate goal kicker. I’m going to let him go through to the keeper.
Lachlan Hubner - BUY
34 FP in 59 mins vs Dolphins - 33TCK/5MT, 1TB, 1 ER, 1TO, 99 MG
Is getting prioritised by Uncle Wayne who made it clear Hubner was someone he wanted at the Bunnies. A little bit of risk with Euan Aitken a few weeks away which may see Arrow or Keaon moved to lock. But there is more risk not picking up his price rises and we can look at that when it happens. Plenty of room for improvement so if these minutes continue we could easily see him score in the 40’s.
Jamie Humphreys - BUY
75 FP vs Dolphins - 2 goals, 1TA, 30TCK/0MT, 1 OFH, 44MG, 732MG
Don’t expect 75 on the weekly with his stats off the charts. In this spine with Cody, Peter and Jye he will have 500+ kick metres weekly. 30 tackles for a half back is very usual but his got a big frame so look for at least 20 on the weekly. Very heavily involved and could still improve on 44MG. Bit of risk with the return of Dodd but given how low his BE is and the intensity he brings to the game look for him to be given a fair crack. Dragons, Sharks, Penrith next 3 so could be under pressure if they get pumped by the Sharks and Penrith. Don’t be left behind by the pack.
Royce Hunt - SELL
15 FP in 30 mins vs Knights - 13TCK/1MT, 68MG, 1PC
After being named on the bench, not sure why 21% of coaches took the punt here. Even in 30 minutes his output was terrible. Will continue to bleed cash and there are just better cashies out there to cut your losses.
Jack Bird - HOLD
25 FP in 52 mins vs Knights - 27TCK/6MT, 87 MG, 2TB, 1 ER
Got decent minutes out there however was let down by 6MT (12 demerits). Don’t give up on him yet as he is not bleeding cash. Given this is likely to be a bit of roller coaster season he could easily end up starting in the coming weeks. Feels like a waste of a trade to get him out even with some good cashies floating around
