Luciano Leilua enters 2021 off the back of a stellar 2020. He is priced at $705k, BE53 and low ownership of 3.1%. He had a huge trial over the weekend against Manly and granted he was running at a reserve grade half, however Leilua’s confidence is sky high and he looks settled next to a dominant half Luke Brooks and his brother is also set to join them on that edge.
This pick is an alternative to David Fifita who has an ownership of 29.2%. Fifita did miss a lot of footy last year while Leilua was much more durable playing all 20 games. That’s his competitive advantage over Fifita is his durability and given he is unlikely to play State of Origin, Leilua might give you the comfort of not needing to trade him out.
He thrived in his switch to the Tigers and was consistent with his average unchanged when comparing rounds 1-10 to 11-20. He had a couple of huge games with a 100 against the Broncos and an 81 against the Knights. His ability to break tackles and offload gives him a high ceiling however he actually has a nice work rate averaging 102m and 33 tackles per game.
Consistency, reliability and with a nice huge score from time to time, Leilua is your man to stand out from all the Fifita loving coaches.
